Introduction
The PlayStation 3 (abbreviated as PS3) is a gaming consolewhich is created by “Sony.” The PlayStation 3 has many great features whichother systems don’t. This includes free online play (PlayStation Network),Blu-Ray player, 1080p graphics and a new add-on (PlayStation Move.) The PlayStation 3 is competing with the other 2 major gaming consoles; however, it’s mostly with Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3 has mostly games which you can also get on Xbox 360 and Wii. However, some games are just for PlayStation, these include Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet and Final Fantasy.
HardwareOnline Play:The PlayStation has support for online gaming, and PlayStation Network. This can be used to surf the web online, buy games (these
may include old games like Pac-Man, or new games which were created just for the Network.) There is also a feature which is called “PlayStation Home.” This is a virtual 3D world where you can create a personal avatar, build an apartment and decorate it. It is also a destination to make new friends to play online games with. For online gaming, you can play with your friends with “gamer tags” or just play with random people online.
Graphics:The graphics on a PS3 are pretty good, it uses a 550 MHz NVIDIA/SCEI RSX 'Reality Synthesizer. A PS3 can support any television which has the yellow, white and red holes. (So it can support 570i, 360p 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080p.) For DVD’s and CD’s, it uses the Blu-Ray player, which is a HD DVD player which can play supported “Blu Ray DVD’s” it can also play normal DVD’s.
Add-Ons:The PS3 has many add-ons which can be used to play a certain game or make the experience better. The main add-on which has many people going is the “PlayStation Move.” This is sort of similar to the Wii-remote, but instead of accelerometer and optical sensor technology, it uses PlayStation Move uses the PlayStation Eye camera to track the wand's position, and internal sensors in the wand to detect the motion. The other major add-on is the PlayStation Eye, which is basically a web-cam. However, it is like Kinect, it
doesn’t use a controller. Other add-ons may include wireless controllers and dual-shock controllers.
Games
(Before we begin, I will explain what First, Second and Third party games are. A first party game is a game which is created by the
same people as the console. A second party game is a game which is created by a company owned by the company of a console.
A third party game is a game created by a company with no ownership to the company of the console.)
First party games:There is a choice in the first party games you want to get, it can range from Gran Turismo, Ratchet and Clank or LittleBigPlanet. Most of the first party games are very popular in both in terms of sales and quality of games. This is why many of first party games are “platinum” (platinum meaning if there is one million sales, it becomes platinum.) Many of these games also have sequels which can be better or worse than there originals.)
Second party games:There are only a few second party games for the PS3, include Naughty Dog. Naughty Dog used to create games like Crash Bandicoot, but now they release games more like Uncharted and their sequels.
Third party games:The wider range of game choices, which are normally released on other systems. Maybe with minor gameplay changes and level design changing. These types of games include “Call of Duty (Black Ops,) Guitar Hero (All types,) Sporting games (Fifa 11, etc.) They are usually the games which are the worse but they do have some very good games in these.
OverallThe PS3 is a great choice for a new console. It has many features which improves a lot on, include no memory cards, Blu Ray player,
online play, hardware, graphics and so on. Overall, I would give a PS3 a 4.8/5. It loses .2 stars because of its high price.
